By Firestone Days of Wonder released Memoir '44 nearly 10 years ago--on the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of WWII. On their 10th anniversary, and the 70th anniversary of D-Day, they're releasing a new expansion for their hit game.
Memoir '44: D-Day Landings is a set of six large battle maps that you'll use to recreate some of the pivotal battles of that fateful day. According to the News on Days Of Wonder's site:
"The battle maps in D-Day Landings introduce the 'Extended Breakthrough' format, with the maps being 23 hexes deep and allowing players to undertake battles on a scale and scope never before possible in Memoir '44. The six maps consist of settings for American Airborne, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach. Each battle can be played individually or assembled with its neighboring scenarios for double- and triple-map battles. With enough players (and enough components), you can link all six battle maps to form a giant board that recreates the entire Normandy coast!"
You'll need at least one copy of the base game, plus the Terrain Pack, Equipment Pack, and Winter Wars expansion. DoW also recommends you have the Mediterranean Theater expansion. The maps will come in a cloth-bound "briefing folder" just to add to the "cool" factor. It'll drop in June, and will retail for $35.
I've played many games of Memoir '44 with my oldest, and I can't WAIT for this to release. What about you? Are you a fan of Memoir '44? Have you been curious? Does this seem like a good 10-year treat for this game system? Let us know in the comments. (Mark Jackson, I'll assume your answer to all of my questions is Yes.)
